Virgin Australia flight VA562 from Perth to Sydney on Wednesday night diverted due to bad weather

Passengers travelling on a Virgin Australia flight from Perth to Sydney were left stranded overnight after the plane was diverted to Brisbane due to storms. Virgin confirmed passengers on VA562 were sent to Brisbane rather than Sydney because of a storm cell that passed over the harbour city late on Wednesday night. The flight was placed in a holding pattern due to limited runway use at Sydney Airport, however later had to be diverted as it would have missed the strict 11pm curfew. VA562 had been scheduled to land at 10.30pm. “The safety of our guests and crew is always our top priority,” a Virgin spokesman said. “All guests were offered hotel accommodation in Brisbane on Wednesday night and were booked on flights to Sydney early this morning.” A number of guests had decided not to take the hotel option and stayed in Brisbane airport and were booked on the first flight to Sydney at 6am.
