Bomb threats closes National Australia Bank branches across the country

National Australia Bank branches across the country have been forced into a shutdown over what the big four bank described as a “physical security threat”.

NAB made the announcement via social media just after 10.30am this morning, saying it was prioritising the safety of its staff.

“Unfortunately we have had to close our branches temporarily due to a physical security threat,” it posted on Twitter.

“As always the safety and security of our customers and colleagues is our priority. We are working closely with police and will provide an update as soon as we can.”

The Australian has reported that Queensland Police said a number of branches in the State had receive bomb threats.

A caller to Sydney’s 2GB Radio said he was “abruptly booted out” of an NAB bank branch at Revesby.

The bank did not make further comment on the nature of the threat or when the branches would reopen.

It said digital and telephone banking services were operational while branches were closed.

NAB said it had been working with authorities to "assess the physical threat".

“The latest advice from State and Federal police is that the threat is not credible and has been deemed a hoax. As a result, we are pleased to advise that it is now safe to return to all NAB locations from tomorrow morning.

“We understand that this caused inconvenience to our customers and colleagues, however their safety and security is our absolute priority and that is why we took the action we did. We did so with the information that we had at the time."
