NBN Co revenue soars as rollout nears finish line
NBN Co says it activated another 500,000 premises in the September quarter, with 6.03 million homes and businesses connected to the controversial broadband network by September 30.
The NBN Co said it was activating around 40,000 new residential and business customers each week.
It said 10.2 million premises were listed as ready to connect — about 89 per cent of Australia’s 11.5 million residential and business “standard installation” premises.
“We remain on track to complete the volume rollout of the network by 30 June 2020,” NBN chief executive Stephen Rue said.
“When we reach this important milestone next year, ubiquitous, high-speed broadband will be available across this vast nation.”
That June 30 goal doesn’t include new developments and a small portion of premises in difficult to access, culturally significant or heritage areas, the NBN Co clarified.
The company said it had quarterly revenue of $876 million, up 41 per cent from a year ago.
It had a $1.5 billion loss for the quarter, widening from $1.1 billion a year ago.
The NBN Co’s average revenue per user was $45, up from $43 a year ago, driven by more customers choosing or upgrading to speed tiers of 50Mbps and above.
Two-thirds of business and residential customers were on such plans as of September 30, the NBN Co said.
