Actor RJ Mitte has died aged 34.

The star, best known for his role as Walter White Jr on the hit television series Breaking Bad, died on Monday in Brownsville, Texas.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” representatives for Mitte said in a statement.

Mitte’s family has requested privacy at this time.

TMZ is reporting the actor’s cause of death was suicide, but law enforcement officials say the investigation into the actor’s death is ongoing.

Health battle and advocacy

Much like his Breaking Bad character, Mitte had been living with cerebral palsy (CP).

He was three years old when he was diagnosed and was fitted with leg braces and used crutches through most of his youth.

Over time, he became stronger thanks to exercise and sport and by the time he reached his teens, he no longer need the walking aids.

While living with a much more mild version than his Breaking Bad character, this early experience contributed greatly to his standout role.

Mitte also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and was the president of his own Mitte Foundation that worked to breakdown the stereotypes surrounding disability.

“Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion,” his representatives said in their statement.

He starred in a total of 56 episodes of the popular program.

In 2022 he took on the role of Mind Master in Netflix’s The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!) and has worked across a number of projects as an actor and producer.

His most recent project, starring as Brad Everett in the film One Eye Open is set to be released later this week.

‘Love transcends all’

Mitte met his partner, Kennedy Suarez, through friends when young. The couple were friends for a decade before commencing a romantic relationship around 2020.

He proposed on her 30th birthday in October 2025 at the Dia del Sol charity gala benefiting United Cerebral Palsy.

Suarez took to Instagram following the proposal, writing: “My 30th felt like a fairytale ... I have the man of my dreams by my side we are doing what we love most — helping others.”

On Valentine’s Day this year, Mitte shared a heartwarming video compilation of the couple’s moments together with the caption: “Looking back at these moments with you reminds me how grateful I am for the love and kindness we share.”

“Love transcends all. Go out and share yours,” he wrote.

Mitte is survived by his parents, and younger sister Lacianne.
