Anthony LaPaglia coming to Crown Theatre Perth in Death of a Salesman this August

Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award-winner Anthony LaPaglia is packing his suitcases this August for a strictly limited two-week Perth season of Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Death of a Salesman. The Lantana and Balibo actor made his professional Australian theatre debut in the production’s 2023 Melbourne premiere, receiving rave reviews for starring in the iconic role of failing travelling salesman Willy Loman. Its Sydney run has just wrapped. Directed by Neil Armfield (Cloudstreet, The Secret River), Death of a Salesman is regarded as one the greatest plays of the 20th century as Miller’s profound two-act tragedy, set in late 1940s Brooklyn, explores the pursuit of success, the post-war American dream, and its consequences. The role marked LaPaglia’s return to the playwright after winning a Tony Award — Best Actor in a Play — for his portrayal of Eddie Carbone in the 1997 Broadway revival of Miller’s A View from the Bridge. “The Australian stage debut of Anthony LaPaglia in Melbourne followed by Sydney was a much-awaited event and entirely delivered on its promise,” GWB Entertainment’s Richelle Brookman said. “Mr LaPaglia’s Tony Award-winning success on Broadway in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge is legendary and it was so exciting to see him in another towering performance on home soil. “We could not be happier than to now bring Neil Armfield’s brilliant production to Perth.” Joining LaPaglia on stage in the once-in-a-generation production is Helpmann Award and Silver Logie winner Alison Whyte (Faith Healer, The Dressmaker, Groundhog Day the Musical) as wife Linda Loman, with Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Furiosa, X-Men) and WA Academy of Performing Arts graduate Ben O’Toole (Barons, Caught, Boy Swallows Universe) as sons Biff and Happy. “Now more than ever, being reminded of what it is to be human, with all its flaws, is essential,” co-producer Andrew Henry added. “The Loman family and their story stand the test of time for good reason.” Death of a Salesman is at Crown Theatre Perth from August 15.
