A popular hot chilli oil has been recalled after it was found to contain an undeclared allergen that could pose a serious health risk to some consumers.

Food Safety Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) issued the recall on Wednesday for a batch of LGM (Lao Gan Ma) Hot Chilli Oil 275g because the product does not declare the presence of peanuts on its label.

The affected batch is PLGM012026, with a best before date of January 23, 2027.

The product has been available for sale at Asian supermarkets, independent food retailers including IGA, and online in Western Australia.

FSANZ said the recall only applies to the affected batch.

“Any consumer who has a peanut allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if product is consumed,” the notice said.

Consumers with a peanut allergy or intolerance have been advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

“Any consumer concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” FSANZ said.
