Perth’s iconic pizzeria Theo and Co is the latest business to fall victim to the coronavirus pandemic.

The pizzeria, famed for its award-winning menu, last night announced the closure of its two restaurants at Leederville and Victoria Park.

“With a heavy heart, we have had to shut our doors as of today for the foreseeable future,” the company told customers on social media.

“We are grateful to have been able to dish up some of the best pizzas in Perth over the last five years and made some amazing memories along the way.

“A big thank you to our staff, customers, suppliers and community who have supported us over the years, this would not have been possible without you guys.”

In April, Theo and Co scaled back its restaurants, operating only out of Victoria Park due to the strict pandemic restrictions.

“Due to COVID-19, we have made the decision to close our Leederville store temporarily until dine-in regulations are lifted,” the announcement said.

Upset fans of the restaurants mourned the loss of the “best pizza in Perth” online.

“Sorry to hear because the Pizzas were the best I’ve had,” Bridget Dux wrote.

“It’s my favourite pizza place....I’m goanna cry,” Elaine Lin wrote.

“This is so sad!! I had my first date with my now husband here and he surprised me on our engagement with a big celebration with all my family and friends here. I love this place and I’m sad to see it close,” Sunni Court added.

The restaurant’s famously extensive pizza menu included traditional grandma pizzas, deep-dish skillet pizzas and even dessert pizzas.

Last year Theo and Co founder Theo Kalogeracos announced he was calling it quits, blaming tough times and the demands of a hospitality industry changing for the worse.

“Unfortunately, our precious hospitality industry has changed,” he said.

“I personally will not sell my soul for the bottom line of the corporate world.

“It is no longer about the customer, or the quality, or the employees. It has become simply about the profit.”
