7News footage shows the walls blackened with soot from the explosion, which spread from the kitchen to the living room.

Firefighters told NewsWire they believed the explosion was “accidental due to a fault in a robotic vacuum cleaner”.

“The device has been sent to Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) for further investigation,” a DFES spokesperson told NewsWire.

A Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety spokesman said investigators attended the home and seized several items from the property.

“The investigation is expected to take some time to complete, and it is too early to draw any conclusions about the cause or source of the fire.”

In an online fundraiser, Mr Perrem’s mother Fiona said their world “has been turned upside down” by the 25-year-old’s injuries.
