A postcard retreat in the heart of Bickley Valley, entering this delightful dwelling on Walnut Road feels like stepping into rural France.

The Agency WA Property Partner Patrick Harper said he had sold the property to its current owners about 20 years ago as a block of land, and they built their bespoke residence there four years later.

“Their vision was always to build a French provincial, Mediterranean-style home which took advantage of the valley views,” he said.

“The tiled roof, fireplaces and traditional finishes all reflect that style.

“The current owners wanted a retreat where they could come home, relax and enjoy the scenery.”

The resulting stunner harnesses the vistas from multiple vantage points.

“From the home, you can look across Bickley Valley in multiple directions, including towards the Carmel valley,” Mr Harper said.

“The main living and dining area was designed to frame those views through large windows and French doors.

“Flowing off the main space, the kitchen also includes an island bench and overlooks the wider property, creating a connection with the landscape.”

Mr Harper said a French door in the kitchen maintained the provincial theme, while stone benchtops, a freestanding range cooker and a walk-in pantry added class to the country ambience.

“There’s also a substantial alfresco entertaining area taking full advantage of the outlook,” he said.

“Most of the bedrooms have sights across the property as well, so wherever you are, the landscape remains a feature.”

Uniting residents with the great outdoors, all but one of the bedrooms have direct exterior access.

These sleeping quarters have been placed on either end of the house, alongside the various living areas, creating a layout perfect for families.

“The floor plan provides great separation,” Mr Harper said.

“The master suite is at the front of the home while the children’s bedrooms are in their own wing.

“The central living areas connect the home, and there’s also a separate media room or lounge for the kids, giving everyone their own space.”

Heads of the home will appreciate the master suite’s generous walk-in robe and ensuite with a corner bathtub.

Function and style come together in the remaining bedrooms, each with built-in robes. A flexible study by this wing can be converted into the fifth bedroom.

The expansive grounds surrounding the abode hold equal allure.

Mr Harper said the property was zoned Rural Agriculture, offering myriad possibilities.

“It could be used for horses, hobby farming, growing produce or simply as a lifestyle property,” he said, adding that a spread of plum trees remain from when the land was used an orchard.

“There is also potential for tourism-related uses, including chalets, subject to approval.

“The land is extremely fertile and versatile, and the property has exceptional water resources, including mains water, a year-round dam, bore water, rainwater collection and the Pickering Brook waterway running along the boundary.”

Mr Harper said the location remained one of Perth’s best-kept secrets, enhanced by a strong sense of history and heritage.

“You feel as though you’re in the countryside, yet you’re only about 30 minutes from the city,” he said.

“You’re in the heart of Bickley Valley, surrounded by boutique vineyards, wineries, restaurants and breweries.

“There’s even a restaurant a few hundred metres away.”
