An Ellenbrook grandfather who was allegedly attacked by a stranger while bringing in his neighbour’s bins says he thought he was going to die.

Mike Willison was so badly hurt when he was set upon four days ago that he needed plastic surgery.

The 68 year old’s ear was bitten off in what police say was a random and unprovoked attack.

Just 24 hours after being released from hospital, the bruising and scars are still clearly visible.

“No one deserves this, not when you’re going about your daily business,” Mr Willison said.

He was helping his elderly neighbour last Thursday morning by bringing in a rubbish bin when he was allegedly strangled and bashed.

Police say the man who inflicted those injuries was a stranger.

Aiden Bradley Cronin, 29, faced court on Friday.

He was denied bail, with his mother pleading with a magistrate to put him in an institution.
