Best friends and sisters-in-law celebrate first Mother’s Day together, hoping their daughters will share bond

Best friends and soon-to-be sisters-in-law, Jorja Stubber and Shelby Upson will celebrate their first Mother’s Day together on Sunday. Mrs Stubber and her nine-month-old Ava, and Ms Upson and her three-month-old Charli will celebrate the occasion with a family breakfast. “It’s really special to be spending our first Mother’s Day together,” Mrs Stubber said. “Our lives are aligning together and it’s really nice being able to go through all these firsts with someone else. “We are always calling each other asking, ‘is this normal, is this right?’” The two women met in 2014 through their partners Logan and Bodhi Stubber — who are brothers — and have been best friends ever since. Ms Upson will soon officially join the family with her wedding to Logan scheduled for next year. “Our daughters are already cousins, which is sort of forced friends, but soon it’ll be official,” she said. “I don’t want time to go too fast but it’ll be really nice to see the bond between them develop. “Right now it’s just Ava smothering Charli in kisses, but hopefully one day they’ll be best friends too.” While Sunday marks an important milestone of motherhood, Ms Upson believes a more poignant one is on the horizon. “All I ever wanted was to be a mum and though I love it, I definitely have a bit more appreciation and understanding for my own mum now,” she said. “But it may not actually sink in that I’m someone’s mum until she is old enough to actually call me that.” Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May each year in Australia.
