Five charged after allegedly setting on 17-year-old boy who was stabbed twice in Albany carpark attack

Five people, including a 14-year-old boy, have been charged after a violent assault in an Orana carpark that left a teenager with stab wounds in his buttock last month. Albany detectives have been investigating the incident that happened near McDonald’s in Orana about 8.30pm on May 21. The 17-year-old victim was sitting in a vehicle with another teen and stepped out into the carpark when he was approached and set upon by a group of five unknown males. The boy was punched and then stabbed twice in the buttock, his wounds requiring medical treatment. Detectives identified the vehicle of the alleged offenders and used public information to charge five people over the attack. Albany Det-Sen. Sgt Dean Bailey said a 14-year-old boy had been charged with one count of unlawful wounding. He is due to appear in Albany Children’s Court on June 21. Two 18-year-old boys have also been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and two 16-year-old boys have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. Albany Det-Sen. Sgt Dean Bailey said it appeared there was a misunderstanding between the two groups with one taking offence to something that was said, which led to the attack. Police say a small knife was used in the stabbing and has since been recovered by police. The 17-year-old boy was taken to Albany Health Campus by ambulance under normal road conditions but a St John WA spokeswoman said at the time his injuries were non-life threatening.
