Premier Mark McGowan flew in to Albany on Thursday to make two election announcements in the final days of his campaign.

His first stop was the construction site of the new Mt Lockyer Primary School, where he promised a $14.5 million Statewide investment into a new Better Beginnings education program if re-elected.

Standing with retiring Albany MP Peter Watson and asked about his impact on Albany, the Premier joked about Mr Watson’s new look.

“I have something very important to say to him while I’m Premier and he’s still a member of my team, and that is — shave off that beard,” Mr McGowan said.

The Premier then visited the Princess Royal Sailing Club to announce an $80,000 election pledge to build new female change rooms.

He said the funds for female facilities would help more Albany women participate in the sport.

“Women’s sport is continuing to experience growth throughout WA and it is so important we provide decent women’s change rooms and facilities to support this,” he said. Princess Royal Sailing Club Commodore Susette Evans said the funding announcement was about inclusion.

“This grant will allow us to make the club accessible to the entire community so that more women and more people of different abilities can participate in the sport of sailing,” she said.

“It will also make the Princess Royal Sailing Club a more competitive contender for hosting State and national events in the Great Southern.”
