Rain casts doubt on Albany’s Country Cup fixture on Sunday

The Albany and Districts Cricket Association’s second Country Cup fixture this Sunday is in serious doubt because of rain.

After the opening game of the Belt Up Country Cup campaign was washed out at the WACA earlier this month, Albany and Districts are set to host the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association at Turf North on Sunday.

However, heavy rainfall earlier this week and a forecast of thunderstorms for Saturday has the fixture in doubt, with the two teams exploring the possibility of rescheduling to another date.

Rain has hampered efforts by grounds staff to get the turf wickets prepared, firstly for Saturday’s round of the ADCA and then the Country Cup contest which is set to start at 11am the following day.

If the turf is not available to play on over the weekend, the Country Cup game is likely to be rescheduled.

There are showers forecast for tomorrow and then thunderstorms on Saturday, with more showers predicted for Sunday.

Albany and Districts captain Mitch Green said a decision on if the game goes ahead is likely to be made before the weekend.

“We’ll make a decision on Friday,” Green said.

“We will get a good indication today and early tomorrow on whether we can play.

“There is the possibility it can be rescheduled in the next couple of weeks if we call it off before Sunday so we’ll make an early call especially for Bunbury who have to travel.”

Albany and Districts have an unchanged team of 12 for Sunday from the side that was selected to play in round one but didn’t take to the WACA.

Defending champions the WA Invitational XI are playing Peel at Stevens Reserve in Fremantle in the other round two clash.

In round three of the ADCA on Saturday, both A-grade games are scheduled to be played on turf.

Railways and Royals, who are both winless, will face off in an intriguing clash at Turf South.

The two early season in-form teams in Mt Barker and Collingwood Park do battle at Turf North.
