The Augusta-Margaret River Hawks will be gearing up to continue their undefeated run when they get set to face South Bunbury on Sunday.

Having already knocked off two of last year’s top five sides in the first two rounds of the 2021 season, the Hawks face the prospect of earning themselves a third straight win.

The Hawks caused a major boilover at Brunswick Oval last Saturday by defeating Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault by 22 points,

The fundamental elements of their sterling performance were simple — applying extreme pressure to their opponents, along with denying them time and space. Cody Rodgers, who has become somewhat of a focal point in attack so far in 2021, burst to life in the middle of the game for the Hawks, and his five majors ultimately ensured the travelling supporters went home happy.

Hawks coach Matt Jamieson said they could go 3-0 with a win against South Bunbury at home

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s road trip to Margaret River, South Bunbury coach Stephen Bilcich said the off-season had been a “funny summer”, with people keeping their club happenings under wraps.

“Every week we are learning about teams,” he said.

“(The Hawks) are always tough down there and that will be a really big challenge. They have also been a really good side whenever we have played them over the last few years.

“We all expect a tough contest.”

The Hawks have beaten the Tigers the past four times the two sides have met.

But the last time the Tigers beat the Hawks was a one-point thriller at Gloucester Park.

Elsewhere in round two, Collie Eagles dashed Harvey’s hopes of an early winning streak with a 13.7 (85) to 7.8 (50) victory.

Donnybrook upset reigning premiers Bunbury 13.9 (87) to 12.12 (84), Carey Park held off a late comeback attempt by Eaton Boomers 9.6 (60) to 7.11 (53), and South Bunbury held Busselton to two losses in a one-point thriller.
