Blaze erupts in Wetherill Park after two semi-trailer trucks carrying chemicals crash on Victoria Street

Residents in western Sydney are being urged to stay inside as plumes of toxic smoke fill the air following a fiery smash between two semi-trailers

The B-double trucks collided on Victoria Street in Wetherill Park about 6.30am on Thursday sparking a huge fire.

Three trucks have crashed and are on fire on Victoria Road. The loads of each truck are unconfirmed. #FRNSW has assigned over 20 resources and over 60 firefighters.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) feared the trucks were transporting chemicals and urged local residents to remain indoors and prevent the billowing smoke from seeping into homes.

“Although the fire is contained it is not yet extinguished,” a spokesperson said.

“FRNSW has assigned a large number of resources to the incident including hazardous materials (hazmat) specialists.

“Operations will be ongoing throughout the day to determine the type of loads the trucks were transporting.”

Residents in the area should also remove washing from clotheslines, while those with asthma were being advised to limit their outdoor activity.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, police said.

Cowpasture Road and Victoria Road are closed, and local traffic diversions have been established.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
