A teenager has been charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two other boys at a home in the Hunter Region overnight.

Police allege a 16-year-old boy died after being stabbed during an argument at the home in Swansea on Friday night.

Another boy, also 16, was rushed to hospital in a serious condition and underwent surgery.

Emergency services were called to the home about 8.20pm on Friday and allegedly found the two boys with stab wounds to the chest.

One of them was treated at the scene by witnesses and paramedics, but died from his injuries.

The other was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.

NSW Police said a crime scene was established and the third teen was arrested following a search of the area in a nearby backyard about 9.20pm.

He was taken to Belmont police station where he was later charged with murder and attempted murder.

Police will allege in court the boy stabbed the other boys following a verbal argument outside the property.

He has been refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Saturday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist police is urged to come forward.
