Hawks, Dons and Magpies deliver heavy defeats to opponents in round 16 of SWFL 2024 league season

It was a weekend of heavy defeats during round 16 of the South West Football League season, with each victor winning by more than 30 points. Busselton delivered the biggest hiding of the round, with the visitors leaving Eaton with a 15.25 (115) to 3.3 (21) defeat at Glen Huon Reserve on Sunday. The two teams were relatively even during the first quarter, with the Boomers only behind by one point at the break. But the side got into trouble in the second quarter, only managing one point, while the Magpies kicked three goals. The home team only kicked one more point for the rest of the game as they collapsed under the weight of the visitors’ offensive pressure. Tyler Lindberg was the leading goal scorer of the match, kicking a total of four. The situation was not quite as bad for Dunsborough when they faced Augusta-Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Saturday. The Hawks were only ahead by one point going into the second quarter, but the Sharks were also plagued with the Boomers’ issue, adding one extra point to their score before half-time. While the visitors were able to nearly double their score in the third quarter, it ultimately proved too little too late, going down 4.8 (32) to 12.11 (83). Donnybrook made the most of their temporary home-ground advantage at Boyanup on Saturday, winning their match against the Collie Eagles 15.12 (102) to 8.5 (53).
