Perth bushfires: ‘Watch and act’ alert issued for blaze burning in Koondoola and Ballajura

A bushfire ‘watch and act’ alert was issued for a blaze burning in Koondoola on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started near the intersection of Alexander Drive and Beach Road in Koondoola, before jumping Alexander Drive into the western part of Ballajura.

There was a possible threat to lives and homes, with firefighters struggling for hours before bringing the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire, which was first reported at 12.39pm, was suspicious.

There continues to be a lot of smoke in the area, with residents urged to keep doors and windows closed.

WHAT TO DO

  • Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
  • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
  • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
  • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
