Busselton Jetty closes

Western Australia’s major tourist attraction the Busselton Jetty officially closed its tours today due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Busselton Jetty Inc Chair Barry House said the difficult decision was the most socially responsible choice to make for public safety.

Mr House praised Jetty staff who have been stood down temporarily, for their understanding and commitment to coming back stronger than ever.

“The Jetty family has switched gears to looking at online Underwater Observatory Tours at night and in the daytime, virtual reality tours and marine education workshops. They even discussed making hand sanitiser to diversify.”

Ironically the Jetty has closed the day before the first Jetstar flight was due to fly in from Melbourne to Busselton.

Jetty chief executive Lisa Shreeve said the new online underwater discovery tours included an immersive experience in virtual reality opening the jetty experience to a wider audience.

“It’s so devastating for everyone but we are in the same boat as the rest of the world. We will start thinking about a comeback plan to be bigger and better than ever – our Jetty staff are a creative tight knit crew, always thinking outside the box,” she said.
