Marino: stay calm amid crisis

Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino today encouraged people in the South West to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously by social distancing and accessing up to date coronavirus information.

The statement comes amid concerns that young people were not taking the Federal Governments advice on self-isolation.

Ms Marino said people in the South West could stay up to date with the latest information via www.australia.gov.au and ensured people in need of income support did not need to visit a Centrelink office.

"Current customers do not need to do anything to receive the economic support payment or the Coronavirus Supplement," she said.

"New customers will be asked to create a MyGov account before confirming their identity, which can be done over the phone.”

Long queues for prospective welfare recipients were seen at Centrelink Busselton on both Monday and Tuesday morning with many individuals frustrated with wait times.
