Students from West Busselton Primary School have written letters of encouragement and appreciation to people working on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Staff decided the recent challenges of the pandemic provided an opportunity to celebrate caring individuals in the Capes community.

Each class from Kindergarten to Year 6 adopted a group of workers such as supermarket and pharmacy staff, hospital workers, paramedics and aged care staff drawing cards to brighten up a stranger’s day.

West Busselton Primary school teacher Sharon Wiseman said the letters, pictures and cards were distributed to recipients with several workers exclaiming they were “about to cry”. “With all the doom and gloom that our students have been constantly hearing via media or conversation and their ever-changing landscape at both school and home, we decided as a whole school to honour our tireless essential service workers in our Busselton community,” she said.

“The students also felt concern and empathy for those most vulnerable to the virus among our community residing in the aged care facilities. Their messages were heartfelt and inspirational.”
