A Busselton musician has spread summer vibes in time for Christmas with folk/pop-inspired single Cher & Josh released earlier this month.

The popular 90s movie Clueless was the basis for Ornella, who mixed acoustic melodies with folk tunes to create a summer-romance hit.

The 21-year-old said she was glad the single was finally out for the world to hear.

“This song came about after a long period of writer’s block last summer. One day, I sat down with my guitar and forced some lyrics on to paper, and I was finally excited about the concepts I was coming up with,” she said.

This is the second single released by the young star this year. She said it intended to convey the idea of being “so enthralled by someone that you can’t think clearly anymore”.

Ornella, a 2016 St Mary MacKillop College graduate, said the rom-com, Clueless, was her inspiration because of the main character’s fashionable, feminine and strong-minded depiction.

“When I write a song, I always think about the look that is going to match it, so it was easy to take some inspiration from Cher in that area,” she said.

Ornella’s talent has been on the rise since her performance in front of 20,000 people during an AFL match at Optus Stadium earlier this year.

She said it was an amazing experience.

Ornella will perform at Busselton’s The Shed Markets on January 15.

More information will be available in the lead-up.
