Man charged over Fremantle sexual assault from 1994

Special Crime Squad detectives have charged a 59-year-old man from Collie as a result of an extensive investigation into an incident that occurred in Fremantle in 1994.

Norman Frederick Hart appeared in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court via video link from Bunbury Regional Prison yesterday to face charges of aggravated burglary and commit offence in dwelling charge and aggravated sexual penetration without consent.

Police will allege that between 2.30am and 4am on Saturday, May 28, 1994, Mr Hart gained entry into a home on Swanbourne Street through a window and once inside, sexually assaulted the lone female occupant.

Due to the historic nature of the charges, his lawyer asked for a committal mention hearing.

Mr Hart is due to face court again on March 18, 2021.
