EARLIER: A bushfire emergency has unfolded in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs after a blaze sparked near the Palm Terrace intersection in Forrestfield.

First reported just after 3pm, the blaze was swiftly lifted to an emergency alert for the people in an area bounded by Yorna Road to the north, Ozone Terrace to the west, Orange Valley Road to the east and Falls Road to the south.

Those in the area have been told they’re in danger and need to act immediately to survive as there’s a threat to lives and homes.

WHAT TO DO:

  • If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place.
  • Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute is deadly.
  • Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
  • If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home.
  • Go to a room in your home away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape.
  • Choose a room with two exits and water such as a kitchen or laundry.
  • If you are not at home, it’s too dangerous to return.

Those planning to leave have been told it’s safe to leave via Lesmurdie Road, Falls Road and Canning Road.

Firefighters have been assisted by several water bombers to stop the out of control and unpredictable bushfire, which is moving fast in a north-easterly direction.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and be cautious around emergency services responding to the blaze.

Various roads have been closed including the Falls Road and Nelson Crescent intersection and the Palm Terrace and Lewis Road intersection.

Motorists are urged to visit the Main Roads website for the latest up-to-date road closure information.
