Parts of NSW are gearing up for thunderstorm activity with possible flash flooding and damaging winds over the weekend, while every corner of the state can expect rain.

Helen Reid from the Bureau of Meteorology said on Friday she expects "very few places will remain dry" in NSW especially come Saturday.

The storm cell is expected to reach the state's west on Friday and head towards the coast.

"Lots of dynamics in there, lots of moisture, lots of warmth, a trough helping move it through then a cold front coming up through the south pushing in," Ms Reid said.

Thunderstorm activity means rainfall will be inconsistent but is expected to be widespread and between 5 - 10mm everywhere, with "flash flooding, large hail and damaging winds" predicted for some areas, she said.

However the bureau is urging everyone in the state to keep an eye on the "quick moving system" over the weekend.
