Geraldton man charged with failing to self-quarantine after overseas trip

A 73-year-old Geraldton man has been charged after he allegedly failed to self-quarantine on his return from a trip overseas.

Police will allege the man had travelled from New Zealand and arrived in Western Australia last Thursday.

On Friday, he was allegedly seen by residents of his retirement village talking to others in close proximity outside his unit, leaving to attend local shops and riding his bicycle in the area.

Under the Western Australian Emergency Management Act, anyone returning from overseas travel is required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The man has been charged with one count of fail to comply with a direction and is expected to face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on April 16.
