Geraldton school kids on a sugar high for Easter already, with bunch of egg-citing classroom activities
Easter celebrations have started early for Geraldton schoolchildren, with local schools joining in the egg-citement with a basket-load of classroom fun before breaking for their school holidays.
Geraldton Primary School Year 1 and 2 students are celebrating Easter in style, with the younger pupils focusing on seedlings that have been growing for a week in egg cartons decorated in Easter colours and with bunny ears.
Year 1 student Isaac Price said he was “really fast at finding the Easter eggs so my sister doesn’t get a chance.”
Geraldton Primary School Year 2 students are itching for the Easter holidays, with Lucia Mwanyalo, 7, excited to “share stuff with others and be a good friend”.
Annoyed by the sentiment that she can’t touch her Easter eggs until lunch is over, Lucia is excited to get a toy and share her Easter with family.
Esther Weller 6, said Easter means “getting to spend time with your family and get days off from school.” She loves to spend time with her family, and they have lots of fun and will watch a movie this Easter.
Leon Tunc 7, can’t wait to “have a wonderful time with family and play with them at Easter.” They go Easter egg hunting to celebrate, and even “cook chocolate hot cross buns.”
Dechog Zangmo, 6, is keen to “celebrate and eat some chocolate.”
Evelyn Montagu 4, said that she loves Easter because she goes over to her “Nana’s house to have a sleepover and collects Easter chocolates.”
Meanwhile, Year 1 students at Wandina Primary School have been learning this term about “magnificent things”. Through this curriculum, students have delved into Easter, learning with the writing prompt of how to make rocky road before putting it into practice. Their teacher said were very motivated by the task, showing significant growth in basic sentence structure.
School principal Helen Barnes said: “Children experienced making rocky road as an Easter gift for their families, then completed a writing task to demonstrate their development in the unit of work on writing a procedure.”
The two-week school holiday period begins on Good Friday, with students returning for term two on Monday, April 20.
