If any young people in Geraldton are looking for a Saturday of fun, a new event is coming that could appeal to you next month.

The Midwest Youth Fest, hosted by the City of Greater Geraldton, will be held from 2pm to 7pm on Saturday, April 11 at the Geraldton Youth Centre.

The day’s activities include live music, a skateboarding clinic with Infinity Skate, games with Fusion Geraldton, and cultural face painting.

There will also be market stalls and food available for purchase.

The event’s theme is Strength in Our Stories, aiming to showcase the creativity of young people and encourage them to express themselves.

It is all happening in Geraldton Youth Centre, a purpose-built facility for young people to spend their time at, which opened last July.

Mayor Jerry Clune encouraged Geraldton’s youth to attend the event and spoke positively of the impact of the youth centre.

“Geraldton Youth Centre has gone from strength to strength since we opened the doors last year and there is no better venue to host this celebration of our young people,” he said.

“With live music, market stalls, food, a silent disco, as well as an inspiring art exhibition from local artists, alongside an abundance of engaging activities, Midwest Youth Fest is an event you won’t want to miss.”

Local musicians will be the soundtrack for the day with live music, but if any musically inclined attendees want to show off their talents, there will be an open mic session.

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Department of Communities for supporting this event and I urge our local youngsters to get their friends together and come on down to join the fun,” Mr Clune said.

Taking place during Youth Week WA, there will also be some pre-event workshops where participants can enjoy mixed-media art and music development.
