Firefighters were called to The Mad Mexican restaurant in Geraldton just before 9am today after smoke from a cooking appliance set off a fire alarm.

A member of the public phoned triple-0 at 8.53am after hearing the alarm, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.

Two appliances from the Geraldton Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the Durlacher Street business but there was no fire to be found.

“There was some sort of maintenance work being done to a cooking appliance and the smoke set the alarm off,” a DFES spokesman said.
