Top sides emerge early in Geraldton Hockey Association

There’s only been two rounds of play so far, but the top teams in the Geraldton Hockey Association are already starting to establish themselves ahead of the pack.

In the men’s A-grade, the Rovers are looking like the team to beat again in after they picked up a 5-1 win over the Australs-Yacht Club side.

James Van Niftrik proved too good for the combined side as he bagged a hat trick in the win, while Kye McVee and Tyler Allen each got on the scoreboard as well.

The Rovers had depth on their side in the clash against Australs-Yacht Club, and have outscored their opponents 10-1 through the first two games.

The other game saw Casuals pick up a 3-1 win over Saints, with Brent Allen, Lachlan Camerer and Kieran Marsden all scoring in the win. Owen Heitman scored for the Saints.

Yacht Club enjoyed a big win in the women’s comp, taking down the Swans 6-1.

Alyssa Piper and Mya Mead both scored two each in the win, while Chloe Jackson and Tyler Hill each contributed a goal in the win.

While Cardinals got up over Saints 3-0, with Erin Ralph, Mikala Van Niftrik and Dayna Cooper all contributing.

The clash between Australs and Murchsion was the closest across the board, ending 1-0 in Australs favour with Hannah Melling picking up the lone goal.

Both Cardinals and Yacht Club are proving to be the top sides in the women’s, with each sitting 2-0 with a point differential of nine and eight, while no other women’s team has a positive point differential.

In round three action, on Friday the men’s Saints will take on Australs-Yacht Club while the women’s Cardinals face Murchison.

The Casuals men’s will face Murchison on Saturday, and the women’s games sees Swans against Saints and Australs against Yacht Club.
