Grand final glory for Katanning’s 15-and-under netball side at Perth champs

Katanning Netball Association have tasted success at the Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships in Perth at the weekend.

There was no local netball in Katanning, but the KNA sent two sides to the three-day competition at Gold Netball Centre.

The annual event has been held for more than 70 years, and thousands of players from across WA came together to showcase their skills on the court.

The Katanning under-15s team claimed division five title success after defeating Swan Districts 2 by 24-12.

Winning six out of seven games, their only loss came against their grand final opponents in the qualifying games.

The under-15 team were determined to turn that result around and doubled Swan Districts’ score when it mattered most.

The KNA also sent an under-13s team, who had some close games and won two out of six matches to do their hometown proud with their skills and team work.

The two sides were selected after a number of try-outs and attended the carnival from Saturday to Monday, playing through sunshine and lots of rain.

Development officer Davina Davies said all the players should be proud of their efforts and thanked team coaches, managers, umpires, scorers, timers and parents for their assistance.
