Age no barrier for Binningup Salties
The Binningup Silver Salties are proving that age is just a number, as they take part in WA’s only senior surf lifesaving series.
The new program consists of water and land exercises and encourages people over 65 to stay physical, socialise and have fun.
Binningup Surf Club president Julie Doyle said she was delighted with the turnout and hoped it gave the participants confidence and reassurance.
“The ladies loved it, they had a lot of fun,” Doyle said.
“We had some people who stopped coming down to the beach because it was too rough for them to come alone, but now they are able to come with us and feel safe in a group.”
Doyle said the program was flexible and able to be done in rain, hail or shine.
“We socialise and have tea and coffee afterwards too.”
Binningup resident Betty Millward is 90 years old and said she had not had so much fun in years.
The program is run by volunteers from the club and is free to participants. The session starts at 9am on Tuesdays.
