Albemarle awards $71m contract for operation of Paris Grove development in Australind to Compass Group
A major South West employer has announced it has awarded a $71 million contract to manage its 800-person workforce development in Australind.
Albemarle is developing the $140 million Paris Grove workforce accommodation precinct near Australind Spudshed, which will house those working on the $2.3 billion expansion of the Kemerton lithium processing plant.
The company has announced a nearly $71m contract has been awarded to Compass Group Remote Hospitality Services, which will see it operate the facility over its first three years.
Albemarle Paris Grove operations manager Grant Barrow said the development would take pressure off existing rentals and short-term accommodation.
“Albemarle is setting out to positively change the approach to village management and operations and Compass Group will help us implement a healthy and safe culture for our workers — in line with recommendations of the recent WA Government resource sector inquiry,” he said.
Through Compass’ subsidiary ESS, the company will be responsible for onsite catering, accommodation and cleaning, facility management, security and lifestyle programs.
About 70 people are expected to be employed as part of the contract.
Using local employees is a key priority, with Mr Barrow noting a “local leading interior designer” has been working with the company on the village dining area.
He said Albemarle was committed to maintaining good relations with the Australind community, with a Paris Grove community reference group formed to consult and gain feedback from nearby residents.
