More than 80 people from the South West and Perth filled the Harvey Town Hall last weekend to take part in the town’s first briscola tournament.

The pairs played five rounds each and the four winning teams went into the semi finals to decide the grand final champions.

Harvey residents Joe Crupi and Dom Comito were the winning team who took home $500, which they have offered to donate a portion to fundraising events that the WA Calabrese Club and Figli Di Calabria host.

Joe De Leo and Fortunato Luglio were runners-up on the day. Event co-organiser Daniel Italiano said the event was a success.

“We had help from some businesses in Harvey which made the day a big success, and were lucky to have a few volunteers to assist with food and setting up,” he said.

“The ‘Viva Musica’ program on Harvey Community Radio were conducting interviews on the day, and they mentioned how wonderful it was to have all generations playing against one another and embracing the Italian culture.

“It just goes to show the kind of respectful and generous nature we have amongst our wonderful community here in Harvey.”
