Junior players from the Australind Basketball Association learnt some new tricks from a well-known basketball coach at the weekend.

Head coach of Perth Lynx Andy Stewart ran a three-hour coaching clinic at the Leschenault Leisure Centre on Saturday teaching players shooting skills and footwork techniques.

Association vice-president Dean Hart said the clinic was a big success with more than 100 players attending the session.

“Andy made his message understandable for all players from the under 12s to the older players, and they just soaked up his teachings,” Hart said.

“It was also great to have so many of our association’s coaches there to learn from Andy.

“He spoke to our coaches beforehand and explained what he was going to be teaching the kids and explained why he was doing it, and teaching our coaches at the same time as the players.

“We are looking at bringing him back for another session in the new year to work on another aspect of the game.”
