Brunswick community members broke into spontaneous applause when South West MLC Colin Holt announced a $2.3 million Royalties for Regions injection to expand Brunswick River Cottages this morning.

The community-driven and managed project includes building eight more cottages for people over 55 and on low income and four lifetime lease cottages on adjacent land.

Mr Holt said Royalties for Regions funding is means to an end and it takes dedicated people to drive projects.

“The community has worked long and tireless on this project and has set an example of community management,” he said.

“It is a testimony to the Brunswick community that they made sure someone listens in the end.

“We want regional WA to be a place where people can remain from the time they have a baby to life as a senior.”

Harvey Shire president Tania Jackson congratulated the community on making it happen and said stage two of the Brunswick River Cottages, the expansion of units, would bring growth to the area and was a strong factor in the viability of a small country town.
