Darren Bozanich blasts two sixes and 25 fours on his way to 145 off just 83 balls for Harvey-Benger

Darren Bozanich is getting better with age. After recovering from shoulder surgery last year, the 39-year-old recorded his highest score, against Colts in round two. Bozanich dismantled the Bunbury side’s attack, blasting two sixes and 25 fours on his way to 145 off just 83 balls. The opening batter said he was still feeling the innings a few days later. “I’m pretty sore, I’m pretty old,” he joked last Tuesday. “I’m getting on a bit now to be still playing.” His 145 is the third-highest score by a Harvey-Benger player since 2005, but Bozanich did not take all the credit for the 242-run win. “I had a good day, but the whole team did really,” he said. “We lost our first game so it was really important to win this game.” Nicholas Fucile also had a good day as he managed 80 off 45 balls with the bat and 5-27 with the ball. Bozanich said he thought Fucile was “probably” the best on ground. The veteran said he was happy to stay in the fourth grade team and did not want to be promoted in place of a younger player. “Originally it was just to help out, I have always been a good supporter of the club and love the club,” he said. “It’s my second family, they’re really good people and it’s a great club.” Bozanich said due to the nature of the sport, he doesn’t expect the purple patch to continue. “It always feels good when you don’t get out for nothing,” he said. “But I’ll probably get out for a first ball duck next week.”
