A new event is set to make a splash at Waroona’s Troutfest this year.

The Waroona Lions Club and Leo Club are excited to introduce Paddlefest to Drakesbrook Weir, adding more fun and excitement to the always popular Troutfest in September.

In Paddlefest, on September 7, up to 33 teams of three to six people will compete for the the top title in a two-hour endurance race.

The brainchild of Waroona Lions Club member Vic Muller, teams will compete in a range of categories, from juniors to seniors, in pedal kayaks, sit-in canoes and paddleboards, as well as a special competition for the best-dressed team.

Mr Muller said it was a way for him to share his passion for kayaking with the wider community.

He is hoping to see people travel to Waroona from Bunbury and Mandurah to enjoy the the “hidden gem” of Drakesbrook Weir for the day.

“I’ve been to Troutfest twice and it’s always a great time and good weather,” Mr Muller said.

“So fingers crossed Paddlefest has good weather too.”

Mr Muller said there would be trophies for the top teams across eight categories, but he wants the event to primarily focus on having fun.

Registration is $10 per team member if done early. Sign-ups will also be welcomed on the day, at $15 per team member.
