From humble beginnings as a trolley boy, to becoming store manager at one of Harvey’s most iconic grocery stores, a Parton’s IGA employee has walked away with a nationally-recognised award. Having committed a total of 17 years to Parton’s IGA, Scott Britza received the Rising Star Manager of the Year Award at the 2021 IGA National Awards of Excellence. The ceremony, broadcast via videolink across the nation from the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, was hosted at Perth’s Crown Casino and saw a total of 22 awards handed out to eager IGA managers and store teams each in the comfort of their home State. Mr Britza said although he won the award individually, a store manager was only as good as his team and he was grateful to work with such great staff. “We’re not so much a team as we are a family, I’ve worked with a lot of these people for the whole time I have been here, we might even have our little tiffs but at the end of the day we are a family,” he said. “Just to have something to be so proud of here (at Parton’s IGA) is awesome and they (the store owners) have let me look after it for them and I just thank them that I get to come here and have something to be proud of and look after.” Mr Britza — who also won the State Rising Star award earlier this year — said he loved coming into work each day and talking to the “damn good” locals. “I had butterflies in my stomach at the time (of the ceremony), I didn’t realise how nervous I was for it and the support from the other IGAs and networks was great.” “I was up against some brilliant people and to win it was a big shock and it was amazing feeling,” he said.
