Harvey’s Community Resource Centre has been bolstered by the latest funding round aimed at supporting regional traineeships. South West communities from Harvey to Augusta are set to benefit from the State Government’s $37,000 Regional Traineeship Program grant. The program assists in the development of trainees’ skills and knowledge, based on local business and industry needs. The new positions will add to the 109 trainee placements created throughout the regions over the past two years. Brunswick CRC trainee Nicola Van Dijk, who is undertaking a Certificate II in Community Services, said the HCRC acted as a mediator, allowing her to try an array of community-oriented experiences. “I go once a week and get some experience and exposure so that when I leave I have some experience in my portfolio,” she said. Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the program provided tailored support to address the needs of individual communities. “We are seeing a huge range of vocations being supported by this program, boosting the capacity and services of local communities to the benefit of residents and visitors,” she said.
