Harvey CRC, Family Support Services and St Vincent de Paul join forces for Harvey Christmas appeal
Harvey residents are being asked to dig deep to support community members in need in the lead-up to Christmas.
The Harvey Community Resource Centre, Harvey Family Support Service and St Vincent de Paul’s Harvey branch have come together this year to help vulnerable local residents.
A stall will be held outside Partons IGA on Thursday to raise funds for the Vinnie’s annual Christmas Appeal.
Harvey CRC manager Tracey-Ann Davis said the trio of organisations have been working together intensively over the past year on several issues affecting the community.
“Last year was the first year that we collaborated on doing a street stall for the Christmas Hampers and this year it is a much stronger network and all three of us are represented now,” she said.
“It has been really good for Harvey, we have one of the strongest support networks in any of the country towns.”
Donation points are set to be placed in Harvey Super IGA, Team Classique for Hair and Boby, Harvey Community Play and Learning Centre and the Harvey Community Resource Centre to collect canned goods to go into the Christmas hampers.
The community is also encouraged to donate Christmas gifts and other relevant items.
Ms Davis said they would be taking down the names of those in the community who were in need of the hampers.
“They can come to ourselves, Family Support Service or give the Vinnies a ring to put their names down to go on the list,” she said.
Ms Davis noted the importance of looking after vulnerable community members at this time of year.
“More and more, people who didn’t expect to be struggling are now with the lack of housing and it is hard for so many people in the community now,” she said.
“We’re so grateful that we have got a community that is so generous and who are so willing to put their hand in their pocket and help wherever they can.”
The hampers are set to start being compiled in early December.
