Two Harvey businesses have been recognised for their success at the 2023 South West Business Excellence Awards. Harvey Plumbing and Gas alongside Harvey Fish and Chips took home wins at a gala dinner held in Busselton on November 18, being acknowledged alongside many other leading businesses across the region. The latter won the Complete Civil & Mining Sustainability and Environment Award, beating four other nominees. Harvey Fish and Chips owner Pauline Burgess said caring for the environment was part of the business’ everyday practice. “We do what we do because we love what we do,” she said. “It was not just us that received the award, it was our dedicated staff. We employ 22 in the local community” Some of the business’ green credentials include filtering and recycling cooking oil to make fuel for farm machinery. Ms Burgess said the awards process was “overwhelming”, crediting her win to her entire team and the community. Harvey Plumbing and Gas picked up the HHG Legal Group Micro Business Award, beating five other finalists. In a social media post, the business noted the hard work and dedication of the team, describing the win as “a reflection of our collective effort”. BSW Connect awards coordinator Louise Barkle said this year’s awards were the biggest so far, with 79 applications received from 67 businesses across the South West. The two Harvey businesses were recognised just weeks after the Waroona Veterinary Clinic won the small business category at the 2023 Peel Business Excellence Awards.
