Harvey man found guilty of drink-driving on main road — used as example to highlight regional road death toll

A South West man found guilty of drink-driving on one of Yarloop’s main streets has been used as an example to highlight the death toll on regional roads. Harvey man Jay Thomas Bradley Parravicini, 25, appeared in Harvey Magistrates Court on February 28, where he pleaded guilty to exceeding 0.08 grams of alcohol per 100ml of blood. On January 26, Parravicini was driving East on Johnstone Road in Yarloop when he was pulled over by local police and underwent a breath test, returning a blood alcohol level of 0.128. Having appeared in court a year earlier on a similar charge, Parravicini stayed quiet during his hearing but said he was very sorry for what he had done. Magistrate Linda Keane highlighted Parravicini’s record as only showing drink-driving offences and referred to issues around road fatalities on country roads. “Are you aware of the death toll on country roads?,” she said. “When you’ve got that level of alcohol in your system your ability to drive is greatly impaired.” Parravicini received a fine of $1800, court costs of $259.30 as well as a 14-month driving disqualification. Ms Keane expressed her concerns for other road users. “(The fine and disqualification) are nothing compared to the lifelong punishment you would feel if you hurt someone,” she said.
