The Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre will receive a boost to its performing arts schedule after securing State Government funding. The Shire of Harvey-operated facility has received $80,000 from the ‘In the House’ funding program to support the arts across the State. Harvey Shire president Paul Gillett said it was fantastic to see support for regional entertainment venues and the performing arts community. “(It) will allow the centre to continue to offer a diverse range of shows, events and activities,” he said “The funding will support not only the local entertainment and performing arts community, but will encourage more connectedness within the Shire.” Nearly $738,000 was distributed between 10 regional entertainment venues and arts organisations as part of the program, with the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre and Margaret River HEART the other successful South West applicants. As part of the funding, the venue will seek to expand its entertainment program to include a minimum of 20 performances and cultural events this year. The HRCC will also seek to have residencies for creative development as well as increased engagement with sporting groups using the Recreation Centre facilities. Outgoing regional development minister Alannah MacTiernan said the funding would increase the opportunities for regional communities to participate in arts and cultural activities. “(It) also enables these important regional venues to better leverage investment and generate income,” she said.
