Harvey storefront beautifully dressed in red for the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal

As the Salvation Army launches its annual Red Shield Appeal, the Harvey store is boasting an impressive window display to mark the occasion. The organisation is hoping to attract shoppers and funds to its thrift shop in the town, alongside stores in Bunbury and Busselton for the appeal. South West Corps officer Mark Schatz said they wanted to entice residents to contribute to the cause by holding a special drive. “I applaud the efforts of the manager (in Harvey) Carissa, who’s done really well,” he said. “I’ve seen the photos of the shop display, they’re absolutely amazing. “It’s the volunteers that pull it together and we couldn’t run our stores without our volunteers.” Captain Schatz said every dollar raised would go directly to those less fortunate in the community, with the region’s stores aiming to raise more than $30,000. “The money raised goes a long way,” he said. “For example, to keep our van on the road, that might cost us $6000 a year, but that same van picks up over $100,000 worth of bread. “So, we try to turn every dollar we can into the best benefit for the community and help as many people as possible across the board.” This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Red Shield Appeal in Australia, which helped 250,000 people nationwide last year.
