Brunswick junior tennis players will return to the courts with renewed enthusiasm after watching some of the world’s best players face off at the Hopman Cup at the Perth Arena.

For the past three years, the club had treated its juniors to a two-day tennis camp during the summer holidays.

But, when president Cindy Power and coach Julianne Hill went to watch Hopman Cup match they decided to give their young players the same experience.

Hill said none of the juniors had been to the event before and for some it was also their first train ride to the big smoke.

“It was a fantastic experience to watch a professional, international tennis match live,” she said.

“We were very fortunate to be taken on a backstage tour by tournament director Paul Kilderry and Tennis West Hopman Cup events and promotions coordinator Olwen Dawson.”

Club member Jesse Musitano, 16, described the Hopman Cup as “a surreal experience”.

“Being able to watch outstanding tennis players was an incredible spectacle,” he said.

“They were absolutely magnificent at every shot.

“We were blessed to be given a tour down under of the Hollywood-style players’ lounge, gym and restaurant and got to see some of the players, Heather Watson and Jack Sock, off court.”
