Major supermarket and cleaning giant join forces with Meals on Wheels to help Harvey residents stay COVID safe

Elderly residents are reaping the benefits of a major supermarket and a cleaning giant teaming up with Meals on Wheels Australia to donate 50,000 hygiene kits nationwide. Woolworths and RB announced the partnership with MWA last month, with care packs containing hygiene and cleaning products to be distributed to members along with their delivered food. Harvey Senior Citizens Centre members are among those across the country who have received the bags, aimed at boosting cleanliness and hygiene amid the COVID pandemic. HSCC president Brian Keally said cleanliness in the home was incredibly important, especially during the pandemic and for vulnerable citizens. “These hygiene packs from RB and Woolworths will go a long way to ensuring our customers can maintain a clean and healthy home and as an organisation we are extremely grateful for their support,” he said. Local Marie Schlam is one of 63 volunteers who help prepare and deliver the meals and said that overall Meals on Wheels was a “really good service”. “My mum had the service and I really appreciated it, so I understand its value for the elderly,” she said. Mr Keally said the meals were nutritional and some produce — such as potatoes and carrots — were sourced and donated locally. He said the service was also a good welfare check-up on some of its members. The meals are cooked and prepared by a paid chef and delivered by volunteers.
