Mandurah and Districts Model Aero Club continue uplifting pastime

Twice a week, a group of passionate flyers take to the skies west of Waroona. The group are members of the Mandurah and Districts Model Aero Club and have been meeting in Waroona for 12 years. MADMAC president Allan Voyce has been flying for more than 50 years and said he still gets a rush every time he gets a model into the air. “Even now when I take an aeroplane up for the first time, I can feel my heart rate going up,” he said. “It’s awesome, the most difficult part is taking off and landing, but once it’s up in the air it is actually quite exhilarating.” Planes can be bought ready made or assembled by flyers — with models ranging in price from $200 to $9000. “Once you get the hang of it, it is really satisfying, especially if you built it yourself,” Mr Voyce said. “It’s just you and the aeroplane, it is very therapeutic.” The club has 16 members who meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays at a farm paddock.
