The St John Ambulance sub-centre in Harvey held its annual general meeting reflecting on a busy year and welcoming in a new chairman.

Celebrating two years of his chairmanship, Chris Sabourne thanked all the volunteers and drivers for their commitment throughout the year which included almost 1000 call-outs.

Over the past 12 months the Harvey Sub Centre attended a record 990 call-outs, 162 more than the previous year.

The sub centre also conducted 38 first aid classes with 536 students.

Money received from the South West Regional Support Fund was used to install defibrillators at the Harvey High School, Harvey Primary School and St Anne’s Primary School.

Harvey shire councillor and St John Ambulance member Paul Beech was elected chairman for 2019-2020.

Mr Beech has been an active member of the Harvey St John sub-centre for 23 years and has been the acting secretary for the past 15.

“I take an active interest in the governance of the centre, so being in this role helps me stay on top of the daily happenings,” he Beech said.

“We’ve got some big plans for the next 12 months including additions to the current building that we are in.

“I’m following on the heels of some very good chairmen, and it’s a very challenging but fulfilling role that I look forward to taking on.”
